Dear Students,
Since the winter semester 2024/25, our university has benefited from a discounted Deutschlandticket as part of the semester ticket program. Currently, we pay €176.40 per semester and can use public transportation across Germany – buses, trams, and regional trains.
Starting in the winter semester 2025/26, this offer will become more expensive. That’s why we – your student council (StuRa) – want to leave the decision about the future of the ticket up to you through a student referendum.
What’s changing?
Beginning with the winter semester 2025/26, the price for the semester-format Deutschlandticket will rise to €208.80 per semester.
This still represents a 40% discount off the regular Deutschlandticket price.
Until 31.12.2024 | Since 01.01.2025 | |
---|---|---|
Regular monthly price | €49.00 | €58.00 |
Regular price for six months | €294.00 | €348.00 |
Discounted semester ticket price | €176.40 | €208.80 |
Additional cost per semester | – | €32.40 |
What are the alternatives?
If the majority votes against the Deutschlandticket at the new price, there are two possible alternatives:
1. Thuringia Ticket (€78.82 per semester)
- Valid only on regional trains within Thuringia (except tourist routes)
- Not valid on buses or trams (e.g., within Ilmenau, Erfurt, or Weimar)
- No nationwide validity
2. No semester ticket at all
- No discounted ticket via the university
- You must arrange and pay for transportation individually
- No subsidized semester ticket through the solidarity model
Student Referendum – When and Where?
To let you help decide how we move forward, a student referendum will take place:
Date: April 23 to April 25
Time: 10:30 to 16:00
Location: At the cafeteria (Mensa)
We kindly ask all students to take part in the vote. The referendum will take place in person only. Online voting is not possible.
Why should you vote?
The semester ticket offers a comprehensive mobility solution that students can obtain through a solidarity model. This means that each of you benefits from a reduced rate compared to the regular price. The semester ticket is included in your semester fees and provides you with nationwide mobility through the Deutschlandticket.
We don’t want to decide over your heads – that’s why we’re putting this decision in your hands.
Let’s make this decision together for the upcoming semesters.
Why does your vote matter?
The semester ticket is jointly supported by the student body through a solidarity model. That’s why it’s important that you share your opinion on the price increase and the semester ticket in the referendum. Every vote carries equal weight and counts equally toward the result.
If you don’t vote, you let others decide for you.
Only together can we find a solution!
